CAMART² team joins presidential visit to Hamburg

On February 21-25, 2019, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis visited Germany to promote cooperation between Latvia and Germany in business and science. The purpose of the visit was to present the opportunities offered by Latvia in the areas of smart cities, smart materials, biomedicine and robotics, for which German businessmen and scientists showed great interest and desire to develop further cooperation.

Our institute’s project CAMART² team joined the presidential visit to participate in several important events. Together with the President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis, director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (IDAL) Andris Ozols and other highest officials, the project coordinator and deputy director Andris Sternberg took part in the business lunch on economic cooperation issues.

At the same time, deputy director Anatolijs Šarakovskis participated in the meeting with researchers from Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) and discussed possibilities of enhanced collaboration between the Institute and DESY. The delegation participants were introduced with the daily work of the research institution European X-ray Free-Electron Laser Facility (XFEL) followed by the discussions about the next steps to promote closer partnership between Latvian and German scientists. In addition to these fruitful negotiations, IDAL and DESY signed a letter of intent for the forthcoming contract to implement the project "Commercial Analytical Research Organizations Transnational Strategy (CAROTS)".

Meanwhile Materize leader Andris Anspoks and Andris Ozoliņš together with Latvian entrepreneurs attended Philips Medical Systems DMC GmbH and Airbus Operations GmbH to discuss the possibilities for cooperation. The common visit was finished at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, where President Raimonds Vējonis opened a business forum “Magnetic Latvia”, dedicated to promoting economic cooperation, hosted by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.
