On June 20, 2018, Jean-Eric Paquet, Director-General of the Research and Innovation Department of the European Commission, visited the Academic Centre of Natural Sciences of University of Latvia (UL), where the scientific achievements of the Institute and Horizon 2020 project CAMART² were presented by director of ISSP UL Martins Rutkis.
Brookhaven Lab/Stony Brook University physicist Anatoly Frenkel with postdoc Janis Timoshenko in collaboration with scientists of the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia – A. Anspoks, A. Cintins, A. Kuzmin, and J. Purans, use approach analogous to facial-recognition technology to track atomic-scale rearrangements relevant to phase changes, catalytic reactions, and more.
The bracelet in which an optical sensor is embedded for measuring the vitamin D in the human organism. In the competition of eight ideas, the jury found this idea to be the most mature to be implemented as a business project. Deep Science Hackathon 2018 was organised by the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) and was the first activity within Materize, which is the new platform of the Institute for the export of scientific services and cooperation with industry in the field of high technologies.
On May 23 at 13:00 at the conference room on the 2nd floor of the UL ISSP, Ķengaraga iela 8, Walter Margulis (Department of Fiber Optics, RISE Acreo AB, & Department of Applied Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology) will give a talk entitled “Electrooptical control and other specialty fiber applications”.
In order to promote export of scientific services in the area of innovative materials based technologies and cooperation with the industry, on 18 May at 18:00, Institute of Solid State Physics, UL (ISSP UL) will present its new brand Materize. During the event, start will be given also for it’s first activity – Deep Science Hackathon.
The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP UL) and State Education Development Agency`s (SEDA) Horizon 2020 National Contact Point will organize a brokerage event on Horizon 2020, FP9 and Nordic-Baltic Network possibilities in the ISSP UL 2nd floor conference hall, 8 Kengaraga street, Riga, on June 6th, 2018.
In order to better develop our projects, in the modern context, it is important to understand the concept of Industry 4.0, which is one of the priorities of EU. Everyone to know and understand the challenges of digitization, not only in relation with data and IT, but also with the serious challenges of material sciences for sensors and equipment in the world of the Internet-of-Things. In order to fulfil one of the main tasks of the project CAMART² - promoting cooperation between scientists and industry, as well as creating an innovation development system at the ISSP UL, several project participants visited Chalmers University of Technology (https://www.chalmers.se/en/Pages/default.aspx).
The TO-BE Fall Meeting 2017, organised by the Institute of Solid State Physics University of Latvia (ISSP UL), is being held from 11th to 13th September 2017 in Riga, Latvia.
The meeting aims to establish a network of researchers working in the field of the science and technology of transition-metal oxides and to help them sharing their expertise, defining future strategies, and clustering for the future funding opportunities.
After successful launch of the project, a number of activities has taken place. Project organisation has been set up by appointing the leaders of all work packages, and the initial appointing of the key staff to execute the tasks in coordination with the project partners KTH and RISE Acreo.
Definition of the new organisation for the institute is under way, refining of the strategy for science and innovation, setting up Open access procedures and processes, as well as overall outreach organisation.
Number of the courses for ISSP UL staff has taken place, including courses on the process of innovations and innovations fostering culture, H2020 proposal and impact writing course, and IPR management.
