CAMART² is based on collaboration between the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP), Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) - the largest technical university in Sweden and RISE Acreo (Acreo) - the Swedish research institute for microelectronics and optics. The Centre of Excellence profits from the complementary expertise of the project partners in business and science, and their rich experience in commercialization of the research results accumulated at the Nordic innovation cluster Kista Science City. The CAMART² project takes the services, knowhow and capabilities of all partners into account to create a joint research and technology transfer platform for the promotion of science, innovation and industrial developments.
Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (coordinator) (ISSP) is the largest research institution in the field of material science in Latvia. According to the Technopolis group research assessment, "The Institute of Solid State Physics is a leading research centre in Latvia that can provide internationally comparable research in material science, educate students in modern technology and material studies, and provide innovative solutions for industrial applications". ISSP is distinguished by its interdisciplinary research in material science with emphasis on nanoscience and nanotechnologies of new advanced functional materials and processes, and with a special focus on materials applicable for sustainable energetics, nanoelectronics and photonics.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) is among the world top universities (overall rank 117) and recorded an Industry income — innovation score of 100 out of 100. KTH is responsible for one third of Sweden’s capacity for technical research and is the country’s largest provider of technical/engineering education at university level. KTH education and research covers a broad spectrum – from natural sciences to all branches of engineering plus architecture, industrial economics, urban planning and learning. KTH activities at Kista are organized within the school of Information and Communication Technology. The school’s curriculum spans the entire field of Information & Communication Technology ranging from physics and materials, to components, systems, services and user experience. The school has academic activities on all levels in the fields of Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, as well as in Physics and Material Science.
RISE Acreo (Acreo) is a research institute offering innovation and value adding technology solutions for sustainable growth and competitiveness of industry and society. Acreo works within the areas of Sensors and Actuators, Power Electronics and Digital Communication, turning R&D into innovation by customized prototyping, small-scale production and spin-off companies. Acreo has strong competence in work oriented towards industry in order to promote the transfer of technology. Successful working methods are employed to analyse the needs of businesses and to propose innovations, as well as to organize brokerage events and workshops at national and international level with a view to fostering business networking and links between companies and technology developers. It is a Swedish node for the Enterprise Europe Network to provide support to European SMEs in their internationalization activities.
