Meeting with the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute about the Teaming project Quantum Computing for Science and Technology (QSciTec)

On January 22, a group of ISSP UL and University of Latvia representatives visited the University of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute in Nicosia. During this visit, the Latvian team engaged with the leaders of the Quantum Computing for Science and Technology (QSciTec) project, Professor Constantia Alexandrou and Dr. Karl Jansen, the ERA Chair holder for the Quantum Computing for Excellence in Science and Technology (QUEST). Joined by their respective teams, representatives from Latvia exchanged valuable ideas and experiences related to the planning and development of excellence centers in quantum technologies.

The Latvian team introduced the ISSP UL and the Latvian Quantum Initiative to the ERA Chair and the QSciTec team. Professor Andris Ambainis from the University of Latvia shared insights about his team and their vision for advancing quantum algorithms. Additionally, ISSP UL’s Andris Ozoliņš presented an overview of the achievements of the CAMART2 project. The visit included a tour of the photonics laboratories at the University of Cyprus.

During a productive informal dinner attended by Professor Alexandrou, Professor Constantinos Christofides, and Professor Andris Ambainis, further action points to enhance cooperation were established.

In summary, there are numerous opportunities for collaboration in the field of photonics, including quantum photonics, the application of quantum algorithms, and other related domains.
